Starting a large project

A few weeks ago I was commissioned to do an 8x8 hooked rug. The request was to have flowers all over the area and she wanted "Padula Flowers". That wouldn't be a problem, since all of my design are "Padulas", regardless of the subject I'm drawing. LOL
Yesterday I finished transferring the design onto the linen. Started picking the wool colors this morning and was happy to be able to use quite a bit of over dyed wool from my inventory. Tomorrow the dye pots will be steaming. I haven't calculated the amount of wool for the background yet, but I know it's more then a couple of yards. LOL
The plan is to hook the rug with # 8.5 and # 9 strips of wool. Here and there smaller cuts when needed. The motifs are designed for larger cuts.
After I load the pictures here and post the blog I'm starting to hook.

Happy New Year

Here in Arizona we're 4 hours away from the end of 2015. Since I gave up making New Years resolutions many years ago, I don't have to confess unfinished goals. LOL
Just before Christmas I started 2 new rug designs. The first rug is designed for the FB group " Out Of Hand Rug Hooker's Hook-a-long & Challenge Group". Lori Brechlin posted several different motifs and we could choose from those templates to create our designs. Entry Rugs have to be completly finished by Jan 3rd 2016. I will post a picture in a few days.

The other new rug is an adaptation of a vintage rug. This is a great design to use leftover worms. Though, I'm actually not noticing the pile of those going down.

It's finished!

Then it was time to do the binding. I over dyed 1 yard of wool. Cut my bias strips 3 inches wide and these 2 triangles are the left overs from 1 yard of wool. That's cutting it pretty close. (maybe a little to close for peace of mind). LOL

The end is in sight.

Time to celebrate, the big rug is home. Steaming was done on the floor in the Garage

Chair Pads

The little rug "Fraktur 2015" is hooked.
Since then I had an order for chair pads in the Fraktur style, so I redesigned the pattern to fit chair seats. The other chair pad has a rooster as the main attraction.

Patterns are available.

Talking about chair pads. Here is one I designed for La Rae Schneider to match her chair. She started working on it during the 3 day Wine Country Rug Hookers workshop, Spring 2015.
Great job La Rae.

Finally getting around to post new pictures of my progress. The BIG rug is hooked, but I'm waiting for cooler and less smokey weather to lay it out on the garage floor to steam. The wool for binding is overdyed and ready to go. I'm thankful we only have the bad air and not the actual fires in our neighborhood. We need rain to help putting out the forest fires, but that usually doesn't happen till October.

Right now I'm working on a couple of smaller rugs. I'm already thinking about another large design, but planning that will take a while.........

Padula Pomegranates is 24x48.  After starting to hook by echoing around the motifs, I changed my mind and decided to hook the background in "non directional" loops. I still have some echo hooking left in spots, so you can see the difference.

The other small pattern is a replica of an antique rug. Simple Spirit is 18x30

Tomorrow is hooking at the Library. Mara Lou is starting "After the Flood" and requested blue wool for sky and water. These are samples out of the dye pots.
